C# – Password Protecting an Excel file in C#

Does anyone know the syntax for this? I've been looking everywhere and all I can find is C++ code for this. I'm trying to password protect an excel file programatically using the System.IO.Packaging namespace.

Any ideas?

Additional notes:

I'm NOT using the Excel interop–but instead the System.IO.Packaging namespace to encrypt and password protect the excel file.

If you want an Excel password all you need is something like this:

using Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel

//create your spreadsheet here...

WorkbookObject.Password = password;
WorkbookObject.SaveAs("spreadsheet.xls")

This requires Excel to be installed.

That's nothing to do with System.IO.Packaging of course, so you might need to restate your question...

This is what I usually use. It is a little different because I usually stick a AsEnumerable() at the edit of the tables:

var data = ds.Tables["anyNameHere"].AsEnumerable();

as this lets me use LINQ to search and build structs from the fields.

Disable browser ‘Save Password’ functionality

I'm not sure if it'll work in all browsers but you should try setting autocomplete="off" on the form.

The easiest and simplest way to disable Form and Password storage prompts and prevent form data from being cached in session history is to use the autocomplete form element attribute with value "off".

Some minor research shows that this works in IE to but I'll leave no guarantees ;)

@Joseph: If it's a strict requirement to pass XHTML validation with the actual markup (don't know why it would be though) you could theoretically add this attribute with javascript afterwards but then users with js disabled (probably a neglectable amount of your userbase or zero if your site requires js) will still have their passwords saved.
