Strict Mode is a new feature in ECMAScript 5 that allows you to place a program, or a function, in a "strict" operating context. This strict context prevents certain actions from being taken and throws more exceptions.

- It catches some common coding bloopers, throwing exceptions.
- It prevents, or throws errors, when relatively "unsafe" actions are taken (such as gaining access to the global object).
- It disables features that are confusing or poorly thought out.
Also note you can apply "strict mode" to the whole file... Or you can use it only for a specific function (still quoting from John Resig's article):

Which might be helpful if you have to mix old and new code ;-)
So, I suppose it's a bit like the "use strict"
you can use in Perl (hence the name?): it helps you make fewer errors, by detecting more things that could lead to breakages.
Strict mode is now supported by all major browsers.
Inside native ECMAScript modules (with import
and export
statements) and ES6 classes, strict mode is always enabled and cannot be disabled.
To just merge the arrays (without removing duplicates)
ES5 version use Array.concat
:
var array1 = ["Vijendra", "Singh"];
var array2 = ["Singh", "Shakya"];
console.log(array1.concat(array2));
const array1 = ["Vijendra","Singh"];
const array2 = ["Singh", "Shakya"];
const array3 = [...array1, ...array2];
Since there is no 'built in' way to remove duplicates (ECMA-262 actually has Array.forEach
which would be great for this), we have to do it manually:

var a = this.concat();
for(var i=0; i<a.length; ++i) {
for(var j=i+1; j<a.length; ++j) {
if(a[i] === a[j])
a.splice(j--, 1);
}
}
return a;
};
Then, to use it:
var array1 = ["Vijendra","Singh"];
var array2 = ["Singh", "Shakya"];
// Merges both arrays and gets unique items
var array3 = array1.concat(array2).unique();
This will also preserve the order of the arrays (i.e, no sorting needed).
Since many people are annoyed about prototype augmentation of Array.prototype
and for in
loops, here is a less invasive way to use it:

My view is to always use ++ and -- by themselves on a single line, as in:

Anything beyond that can be confusing to some programmers and is just not worth it in my view. For loops are an exception, as the use of the increment operator is idiomatic and thus always clear.
