Merge 2 GetText files

I have two medium-sized web applications that I'm merging into one. They are both localized with GetText and have large amout of common strings, so merging them manually would be extremely annoying. What is the fastest way to merge the two PO files?

I'm sure msgmerge can be coerced into doing just that. (I mean, concat your two .po files, and let it sort things out.)

You also need to install the corresponding language files on your server as so:

cat /usr/share/i18n/SUPPORTED |grep -i "es_ES" > /var/lib/locales/supported.d/es
cat /usr/share/i18n/SUPPORTED |grep -i "nl_NL" > /var/lib/locales/supported.d/nl
cat /usr/share/i18n/SUPPORTED |grep -i "de_DE" > /var/lib/locales/supported.d/de

Now you installed the languages Spanish, Dutch and German. When finished, run dpkg-reconfigure locales and you are done. =)

How to merge 2 .POT files (translation files)

Ok, so the tool to do this is msgcat

msgcat *.pot > all.pot

If you're on Windows, install cygwin, and make sure you have the gettext-devel package, because msgcat is not in the regular gettext package.
