R – French IIS7 Custom Error Pages Language

IIS7 provides custom error pages under;

C:\inetpub\custerr\en-US

However I'd like some other European languages too as by default only English is provided.
Has anyone seen an error page "language pack" for download anywhere. Do I have to install the full windows language pack, I'd rather not.

I don't think that exists anywhere. My advice would be to download the language packs to a computer you don't care about and copy them over manually. I assume you're just trying to not pollute your server with unnecessary software.

IIS7 Cache-Control

If you want to set the Cache-Control header, there's nothing in the IIS7 UI to do this, sadly.

You can however drop this web.config in the root of the folder or site where you want to set it:

That will inform the client to cache content for 7 days in that folder and all subfolders.

You can also do this by editing the IIS7 metabase via appcmd.exe, like so:

Enable IIS7 gzip

Configuration

You can enable GZIP compression entirely in your Web.config file. This is particularly useful if you're on shared hosting and can't configure IIS directly, or you want your config to carry between all environments you target.

Testing

To test whether compression is working or not, use the developer tools in Chrome or Firebug for Firefox and ensure the HTTP response header is set:

Content-Encoding: gzip

Note that this header won't be present if the response code is 304 (Not Modified). If that's the case, do a full refresh (hold shift or control while you press the refresh button) and check again.
